Welcome to our Powerboat Level II Course. This fun and intensive two-day Powerboat course is designed specifically for yacht crew members, giving you the essential skills and knowledge needed to operate a super yacht tender safely and confidently.

Led by our Captain and Lead Instructor, the course combines both theory and practical training and includes super yacht-specific tender operating procedures and protocols to ensure you can handle a super yacht tender like a pro.

Why is obtaining your RYA Powerboat Level II licence important?

Well, simply put, it’s become an industry standard for all yacht crew. This license isn’t just a nice-to-have; it’s a must-have for anyone serious about excelling in the competitive world of yachting. With this license, you demonstrate to potential employers that you possess the expertise and capability to handle tender duties with precision and skill.

The Powerboat Level II license is issued by the RYA (Royal Yachting Association) and recognized by the MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency).

Course Outline

Safety at sea;
Terminology;
Types of boats, hulls, and propulsion;
Boat safety and pre-launch checks;
Navigation: charts, chart work and passage planning;
Weather, tides, and currents;
Launching procedure and safety considerations;
Boat handling at slow speed and slow manoeuvring
Manoeuvring at speed and safety considerations
Vessel in distress/towing
Man overboard procedures (MOB)
Close quarter manoeuvring: docking, undocking, and turning in small spaces

Pre-requisites and certification

Students must be 16 years or older. Any students under the age of 18 will require parental or guardian consent.

No prior practical or theoretical knowledge or experience needed.

On successful completion, you will be issued with a RYA Power Boat Level II License card.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the minimum age to enroll in the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course?

The minimum age to enroll in our  RYA Powerboat Level II course is 16 years old. Student under the age of 18 require parental consent to enroll in our course.

Do I need any prior experience to take the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course?

No prior experience is required to take the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course. It is designed for beginners and covers all the fundamental skills needed to safely and confidently operate a powerboat.

is the RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate recognized in South Africa?

The RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate is internationally recognized, but it is not directly recognized for legal operation in South Africa. If you are a resident in South Africa, you will need to obtain a SAMSA (South African Maritime Safety Authority) under 9m Skipper’s Ticket to legally operate a powerboat. However, if you are visiting South Africa, you may use your RYA certificate during your stay for us up 3 months.

Is the powerboat cousre a requirement in the yachting industry?

While a powerboat license is not mandatory in the yachting industry, it is becoming increasingly recognized as an industry requirement. Having this license definitely enhances your chances of finding a job. We highly recommend it for all crew members to boost their employability and skill set.

What does this Powerboat license give me?

This course allows you to drive powerboats under 10 meters, of any horsepower, in daylight, up to 2 nautical miles from a safe haven.

(2nm = 3.74meters)
